Glaucoma has a long reputation different theories for the “best practice” to determine its magnitude in individual’s eyes.
Various tools to determine glaucoma, specifically, the pressure of the eye, called intraocular pressure are used. While there are a few varying theories for the underlying cause of glaucoma, most believe it starts if the intraocular pressure of the eye rises, the pressure build-up acting like hypertension on the eye. It doesn’t make itself acknowledged until the pressure accumulates so great that perspective is impaired and also symptoms begin to demonstrate.

Researchers have long considered that if diagnostic methods could identify and “catch” victims of glaucoma previous, they could lessen the effects of the disease on people’s perspective.

At the University Higher education London Institute involving Ophthalmology, researchers and medical professionals have developed a tool they believe will measure vision pressure and personal risk with more accuracy than the current model.

The EPIC-Norfolk eye Review reports the submitting and causes of intraocular eye pressure through the “first large-scale population-based steps of corneal biomechanics.” Instead of using the standard rating tool- central corneal fullness, the University of faculty London used a computer device “which generates measures involving corneal biomechanics along with IOP and attempts to proper IOP for corneal actual physical properties.”

The study recruited 25,000 visitors to follow between Michael went bonkers and 1997. And then, in 2006 to be able to 2010, examinations in the participants eyes was over. Researchers studied different aspects of the eyes using a non-contact tonometer referred to as Ocular Response Analyzer. The Analyzer measured the pressure of the eye and took corneal alignment data.

Now, experts will take the data they have retrieved and determine it to see if that the Ocular Response Analyzer is often a more accurate measuring tool for glaucoma. The researchers will be hunting more accurate results along with hopefully, earlier diagnosis.
Dr. Paul Create, the study’s author states, “We will be using our results to assess the credibility of current glaucoma treatment guidelines, with respect to levels of danger attributed to specific numbers of IOP.”
